Company history. Milestones.

The idea that Belarus may have mineral reserves, including oil, was grounded in 1933, by Alexander Rozin, mining engineer and geologist. Significant contribution to the exploration of hydrocarbons in the Rechitsa county was made by geologist Mikhail Gromyko. Water scientist, Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR Gerasim Bogomolov suggested presence of domed structures in the southern part of the Republic, which provided a basis to explore these areas for oil.

In August and October, first Belarusian oil was produced. Drilling crews headed by foremen V. Zaitsev and V. Galko drilled 2 wells – R-8 and R-6. Their daily production rates were around 1000 and 4000 bbl respectively. The new field was named Rechitskoye.

In April, the Rechitsa oil field (later – Rechitsaneft Oil and Gas Production Department ) was put into production. Pyotr Masherov, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Soviet Union, and leaders of the USSR oil industry took part in its start-up. Ostashkovichi field, one of the largest within Pripyat Trough, was discovered.

A wellstock was prepared which is now capable of an annual yield of at least 140 MM bbl of oil.

In this year the slowdown in oil production, which began in 1976, was finally stabilized at the rate of around 14 MM bbl. The slowdown was caused by unreasonable recovery of hydrocarbons out of prospective reserves.
